Late last week during some down time at work I decided to create a new portfolio site for myself and in typical fashion when creating something for yourself the quicker it’s complete the better because if you’re anything like me you’ll be fed up with it by the time its live.
The site design itself was completed fairly quickly but that isn’t surprising since my idea was to keep it as simple as possible using a minimum amount of colours to allow my work to speak for itself. So after about 45minutes of messing about in Photoshop I was ready to start coding.
Similar to the design, the coding side of the site took almost no time at all with the only problem I came across was adding LightBox to show the larger versions of my work. It turned out LightBox wasn’t compatible with the three other JQuery plug-ins I was using. However, this was easily solved by using ThickBox instead which I had used previously to display work on the GRP website.
Next up I decided to create a blog so I could fill in all you lovely people about things that interest me. I’ve never ran a blog of my own but since I build them all the time at work and in freelance projects I thought, why not? Plus the other guys at work have their own and I kind of felt left out.
As you can see the only main changes in the design within the blog is my header where I’ve spun my iMac around, which was done to give the idea that within the blog I’m behind my computer typing obviously. I may even add my head poking out from the side of the screen every so often or my hand waving (using Flash) but I’m a little worried this might ruin the simplicity of the site but we’ll see.
(I’m beginning to ramble on a bit so best finish up…)
Overall, I’m very pleased with the outcome of my down time (Digital Training) at work.
Lastly, is there a new me? We’ll see how much I blog over the coming weeks, months or years before I decide that.
Peace, love and bananas.

nice website man. I was thinking the same thing when constructing my site. I want simple, less colors and let everything speak for itself. I like all the white space you have. It gives it a clean, simple and professional look.
